India Approves ₹1.86 Lakh Crore Green Energy Corridor Phase III

India’s renewable energy sector is set to see greater focus on transmission and storage after the Union Cabinet approved Green Energy Corridor Phase III. The scheme has a total outlay of ₹1.86 lakh crore, including ₹1.36 lakh crore for intra-state transmission systems and ₹50,000 crore for 50 GWh of battery energy storage systems.
Harpreet Singh, CEO, SunBridge Solar, said reliable transmission infrastructure will be important as India adds more renewable power. He also highlighted the role of battery storage in managing renewable intermittency, balancing supply and demand, and improving the use of transmission networks.
According to Singh, better coordination between renewable generation, transmission and storage will be important for project execution and grid integration. He said predictable connectivity and timely transmission infrastructure will help support the next phase of India’s renewable energy growth.
